Bob Kerrey still looking for the best offer to run for the Senate

Like the corrupt Nebraskan Senator before him, Bob Kerrey is now suddenly open to offers again and looking out after number one again (and looking for attention, as always).


If you would remember correctly, that is exactly what Ben Nelson did. Took the best offer and then retired.


So, then, this would be the reverse strategy for Bob Kerrey: take the best offer, take the money and then (presumably) take the Nebraskan Senate seat nicely warmed up for him by Big Ben Nelson.

Senator Ben Nelson is still not listening: Part II

In the United States Senate today, a repeal attempt on the year-old health care law went down to defeat. The vote was 47-51, ending in a party-line defeat for the Republicans.

Nebraskan Senator Ben Nelson remarked: "There are a lot of good parts in the bill and some that I will work to improve. The repealers already have health care. But they're ready, willing and eager to take it away from hundreds of thousands of Nebraskans."

Senator Nelson is Senator Earmarks

With the tax bill and government spending on the U.S. Senate agenda this past week, Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson continues try to position himself as not a tax and spend Democrat. Senator Nelson continues to vote in favor of earmarks, then accuses his challenger of requesting them.

Jon Bruning responds:

"I was not requesting an earmark. We have not spent any of that money. We're sending it back. We don't want it."


What really matters, Bruning said, is that "Ben Nelson remains in favor of earmarks and I do not."

This week, during an interview on KFAB radio, Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson was asked if he’s running for re-election. Surprisingly, he indicated 'yes' but he didn't enthusiastically say yes. "At this point in time I’m certainly planning to run. I’ve been fund raising, been organizing, we’re working on a campaign strategy."

That strategy, obviously, is to "explain" (and re-explain) to the good people of Nebraska the Cornhusker Compromise among other items in the Nelson voting record.

Nelson added, during the interview: "What’s more important than who has the majority is whether we can work together. Ever since I’ve been back there I’ve been able to reach across the aisle and try to bring about solutions, rather than try to block."

Take this to the bank and cash it: Nebraskans will begin to hear the phrase "reach-across-the-aisle" many times daily over the next two years.

At the weekend NSEA (Nebraska State Education Association) conference, U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) tried to tell a joke:

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning will hold a press conference this week to announce his decision at 10 a.m. Friday whether he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2012.

That race would be against incumbent Sen. Ben Nelson, (D-Neb.)

DREAM Act Fails Senate Test Vote

WASHINGTON (AP) --

Legislation to give children of illegal immigrants a path toward legality failed a crucial test vote in the Senate Wednesday, likely putting a final stamp on major immigration measures for the year.

Supporters needed to get 60 votes to advance the DREAM Act, which would have allowed illegal immigrants who plan to attend college or join the military, and who came to the United States with their families before they turned 16, to move toward legality.

The final vote was 52-44.

Wake up Nebraska! Only One Senator is Listening

Today, the United States Senate blocked the much publicized immigration bill.

The bill's supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate (and to clear the way for passage of the legislation)

Critics of the bill assailed it as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel (R) voted AYE (the pro amnesty position) while Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson (D) voted NO (the no amnesty position).

The vote was a victory for those who strongly criticized the bill's provisions that would have established an easy and unfair pathway to lawful status for many of the estimated 10-20 million illegal immigrants.

Opinion polls in Nebraska and throughout the country overwhelmingly disapproved of the amnesty features this bill would have allowed.

The affirmative, pro-amnesty vote by Senator Hagel (R) was anticipated. Senator Hagel has had a very open and liberal position on immigration over many years. A selection of Chuck Hagel's recent votes:

• Voted YES on establishing a Guest Worker program. (May 2006)
• Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006)
• Voted YES on giving Guest Workers a path to citizenship. (May 2006)
• Voted YES on allowing more foreign workers into the US for farm work. (Jul 1998)

Despite the calls and requests of the voters from Nebraska to vote against this illegal immigration (amnesty) legislation, only one Senator listened (Nelson).

Today, one of two senators voted according to the wishes of the voters of Nebraska.
